"Guru Parampara” is the lineage of Guru who transferred their knowledge and wisdom.
The word “Sri Vidya” translates to “Divine knowledge,” “Sacred learning,” or “Cosmic science.” The sacred teachings of Sri Vidya have been passed down through the guru-shishya lineage. This lineage of masters traces its origin to the Universal Mother. Sri Vidya sampradayas include Ananda Bhairava, Dakshinamurthy, and Hayagreeva. The lineages of gurus in Sri Vidya—Sri Dakshinamurthi and Sri Dattatreya—are considered the main ones.
Guru Parampara is the revered lineage of gurus who have transferred their divine knowledge and wisdom through the ages. This sacred lineage begins with Lord Shiva, to Sri Hayagriva, Lord Dattatreya, to Parasurama, who imparted the mysteries of Sri Lalita Tripura Sundari.
This sacred knowledge has been meticulously preserved through a succession of esteemed sages, including Sage Bogar and Mahavatar Babaji, ensuring its continuity across generations. This lineage is presently maintained and disseminated by contemporary masters such as Managurunathan.
The Guru Parampara begins with Lord Siva himself (Sri Dakshinamurthi). The great Sri Hayagreeva revealed the mysteries of The Divine Mother Sri Lalita Tripura Sundari to Sage Agathiya. With the lineage of Sri Hayagreeva and Sage Agathiya, the knowledge was shared to Sage Bogar and various great sages. Sage Bogar shared to Maha avatar Kriya Babaji.
Para tantra speaks on Hayagriva Sampradaya. It states that this school was suited for the first two yugas. It is not suitable in kali yuga. A few remaining adherents of hayagriva sampradaya use hayagriva maha vishnuh as the Rishi for trishati, para shodashI, mahapaduka etc. Moreover, mahapaduka and guru mantras have the classic hayagriva bija embedded. The lineage here is: Parashrih, hayagriva, agastya, vishvaksena, garuda, uddhalaka etc.
Hayagriva is a significant deity in the Vaishnava Sampradaya, and is especially revered in the Sri Vaishnava Sampradaya. He is an incarnation of Vishnu, and is worshiped as the embodiment of higher intelligence and the God of Knowledge. He is considered the guru of Saraswati, the goddess of knowledge. He is worshiped on the day of the full moon in August (Sravana-Paurnami). He is also worshiped on Mahanavami, the ninth day of Navaratri.
The Guru Parampara begins with Lord Dattatreya. An incarnation of the three gods Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva. He is also known as Datta or Dattaguru. He is considered the Adi-Guru (First Teacher) of the Adi-Nath sampradaya of the Nathas. Many stories describe his birth. These stories show that the Lord manifested himself in different forms. This manifestation depended on the level and eligibility of devotees. Devotees celebrate Datta Jayanti, especially on Margashirsha Purnima, with fasting, mantras, and rituals to seek his blessings and guidance. Lord Dattatreya revealed the mysteries of The Divine Mother Sri Lalita Tripura Sundari to Sage Parasurama, the sixth avatar of Vishnu. Parashurama later taught this truth to Various great sages, including to Maha avatar Kriya Babaji.
The Guru Parampara begins with Lord Siva himself. The great Sri Nandhi and Sage Agathiya revealed the mysteries of The Divine Mother. They both shared this knowledge with Sri Lalita Tripura Sundari to Sage Tirumular. Maharishi Nandinatha (Sri Nandhi) and Sage Agathiya passed down the knowledge to Sage Tirumular. They also shared it with various great sages. Sage Tirumular shared to Maha avatar Kriya Babaji.
Thirumoolar, also known as Suntaranāthar, was a celebrated yogi and one of the 63 Nayanars, or poet-saints.
Tirumantiram’s ninth Tantra emphasizes the guru’s crucial role. Verse 139 highlights that disciples attain genuine understanding through observing, invoking, heeding, and meditating upon their guru.
Only the guru facilitates direct spiritual experiences connecting the disciple to higher realms and Shiva. Their objective was precisely this direct spiritual realization. Each individual inherently embodies all sacred sites and the essence of all deities. The true Siddhas guide towards experiential paths, while others direct towards scriptural study.
Ramalinga Swamigal, also known as Thiru Arutprakasa Vallalar, includes several spiritual guides. Among them are notably Lord Muruga and Lord Shiva. Thiru Arutprakasa Vallalar imparted the esoteric knowledge of the Divine Mother Sri Lalita Tripura Sundari to Poojya Sri Krishnananda Swamigal. Later, Poojya Sri Krishnananda Swamigal received diksha from Kriya Babaji in the Himalayas. He then taught this knowledge to Poojya Sri Sri Venkataramana Swamigal (Coimbatore). Other eminent sages also learned from him and shared it with Managurunathan.
Under the guidance of the higher soul, Maata Tripura Sundari, Dr. Managurunathan, Sri Vidyaranya Parabrahma Maha Siddha Guru, composed this work to impart divine knowledge to those deemed worthy.
